Right in the heart of the Douro Valley, Quinta de Alvites, Baião, southeast Vinho Verde DOC, the Pires & Turner project initiated a modern approach to one of the most exciting Portuguese wines – Vinho Verde.
Pires & Turner was born from the dream of a Portuguese and American couple who, while working in public health Africa, decided to acquire Quinta de Alvites in an impoverished region of Northern Portugal with the desire of creating a sustainable Vinho Verde production platform to promote the socio-economic development of this area and an international celebration of these unique varietals.
Between the Vinhos Verde region and the Douro valley with the river as an influence flowing in the background, the hillside vineyards at Quinta de Alvites face high thermal amplitudes in a terroir of excellence for the Avesso varietal. This zone is known for originating unique wines unparalleled from any other region, and characterized by their freshness, minerality, and also their potential for aging.
