The Baião sub-region is one of the nine sub-regions of the Vinho Verde DOC, located to the south bordering the Douro.

The temperate, Mediterranean conditions with warmer summers and colder/dry winters prove to be perfect for the cultivation of the Avesso varietal known to need heat to develop later maturation.

The 8 acres of Quinta de Alvites vineyard are located in the heart of Baião, “looking at the Douro River” at an altitude of about 1000 feet, on predominantly granite soil and with different sun exposures. In our vineyard the varietals of Avesso, Arinto, Fernão Pires and Alvarinho grow in harmony to produce a unique set of high quality Vinho Verde wines.
